Midwest City mayor says state of the city is strong

“Working with our city council, our overarching goal has been and will continue to be simply good government,” Fry said.

Fry said several new franchise businesses opened their doors in Midwest City in 2012, including Dick's Sporting Goods, Schlotzsky's and Cinnabon.

City officials were able to refinance some bonds, which saved taxpayers thousands of dollars, Fry said. An internal audit of the city's financial statements found no weakness or deficiencies.

“The state of our city is strong even in a time of struggle for most American cities,” he said.

Fry said city officials are involved in job expansion at Tinker Air Force Base.

“We are in the process of supporting our base and nation with some acquisition of support jobs on Tinker.”

Fry said the city must continue its support of the base to accomplish economic growth and domestic security.

“While Washington, D.C., has us on the brink of fiscal chaos, we must and shall remain faithful to our beliefs in the republic. We shall stand with our men and women serving our great nation in uniform to the best of our ability. If we can accomplish supporting the base with support jobs, then those dollars can move to support the mission of the defenders of freedom,” Fry said.

Fry said Midwest City-Del City schools are undergoing construction to accommodate student growth and improve learning environments.

“Mid-Del schools are well under way with the new construction at the Eastside and Soldier Creek campus site locations,” Fry said.

Fry said the police department is one of 13 agencies statewide to hold and maintain state accreditation through the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police.
