Col. Tracy L. Smith, who served as commander of troops during the Sept. 23 change of command ceremony, said Estabrooks will be an asset in his new position.
“Command Sgt. Maj. Estabrooks is a take-charge leader who will lead the command into becoming something better,” Smith said.
Estabrooks began his military career in 1985 as an infantry soldier and worked his way into leadership positions throughout the years. He attended numerous military schools and comes from a military family.
His father is retired Master Sgt. Milton Estabrooks, an Army veteran who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
His wife is a retired Army Reserve sergeant, and their youngest son, James, is currently serving in the Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat team in Afghanistan.
“This army is our family business,” Estabrooks said.
“I understand the challenges for soldiers, spouses, parents and children because I have lived all of them. All of the roles require sacrifice, and I am thankful that we live in a nation that honors sacrifice.”
