Authorities are on the lookout for a man charged with animal cruelty after a pair of emaciated dogs were found abandoned in a Midwest City apartment.

One of the dogs — a 6-month-old puppy — died Monday, unable to recover from numerous medical complications, a pet rescue official said.

An arrest warrant for Corey Marion Harrison, 26, was issued Tuesday. He was charged Friday in Oklahoma County District Court with two counts of animal cruelty.

Police officers could not find Harrison on Tuesday when they tried to arrest him at his apartment, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

Police were called July 11 to the Midwest City Animal Shelter concerning two “severely emaciated dogs” found at the Willow Creek Apartments, 6000 E Reno Ave., according to a probable cause affidavit.

A maintenance supervisor there told police he found the dogs in an apartment, and that the apartment hadn’t had power since a fire in a neighboring unit on June 3.

According to a court affidavit, Harrison moved from the apartment at Willow Creek on June 19 and left the dogs behind in a cage without access to food or water. Microchips showed the dogs belonged to Harrison. He told police he left the dogs inside the apartment because they needed to be bathed and he was going to move them to a new apartment after they were cleaned.
