MIDWEST CITY -- Police officers shot a man outside a Midwest City convenience store this afternoon as they attempted to break up a fight, Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

Tyron Joe Jackson, 19, of Spencer, was grazed in the head by a bullet , but his wound was not life-threatening, Clabes said.
About 2:10 p.m., two officers responded to a call of a fight involving a knife at a 7-Eleven at 8311 NE 10, Clabes said. When the officers arrived, they saw a group of people fighting in the parking lot. The officers got out of their patrol car, drew their pistols and tried to control the disturbance, he said.
Jackson jumped into a sport utility vehicle that had been pinned in by the officers' car, put it into drive and hopped the curb, smashing into the store and breaking its front windows, Clabes said. Jackson then backed up and put the car into drive again, and the officer s and witnesses at the scene said he tried to run over the police officers, Clabes said.
One of the officers fired multiple shots at the SUV, hitting it and grazing Jackson's head, Clabes said. He said he didn't know how many shots were fired. Jackson crashed the SUV into a utility pole south of the 7-Eleven, and officers arrested him.
Jackson was treated at the scene by paramedics and booked into the Midwest City jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, Clabes said. Bail has not been set, and Jackson will eventually be transferred to the Oklahoma County jail.
Several other people involved in the fight were arrested on various complaints, but their identities were not immediately available, Clabes said. Officers found a knife at the scene, but it was not clear to whom it belonged.
