The city of Midwest City is preparing to present Tribute to Liberty, an annual family-centered patriotic celebration, featuring musical concerts and fireworks display.

The event will take place in the Joe B. Barnes Regional Park, Reno Ave. and Douglas Blvd., beginning at 6:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring picnic dinner baskets, blankets and lawn chairs so to enjoy our community’s tribute to liberty.  According to organizers, there will be some food vendors on site, as well.

At 6:00, audiences will enjoy acoustical duo, ME, who will perform country and pop music. Following this performance, Mayor Jack Fry will officially welcome attendees.  Then, at 8:30, attendees will be treated to a patriotic concert by Dr. Irv Wagner’s Concert Band.

According to event organizers, the 50 member concert band will perform the highest level of music composed for Symphonic Concert Bands around the world.  Likened to great symphonic bands, such as the one under the direction of John Philip Sousa, the concert band will many perform patriotic songs, such as the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “America,” and the “Stars and Stripes Forever.”  In addition, the concert band will honor our veterans and current enlisted men and women with the playing of their respective armed forces hymns.

The patriotic evening will culminate with an impressive fireworks display, beginning at approximately 9:45 p.m.
