MIDWEST CITY — It would've been easy for Midwest City's Dominque Jones to get discouraged earlier this month when Arizona told him they needed to go in a different direction.

Instead, the defensive lineman made the best of it, keeping up with his work to get qualified and culminating with his signing with Baylor on Wednesday morning.

"It wasn't frustrating," Jones said. "It was kind of my fault because I committed late and they filled up. It just wasn't meant for me to go there."

It was a busy day for the Jones family, who watched Dominque sign with the Bears before loading up and driving across town to Carl Albert to watch cousin Markell Walker sign with East Central.

Jones signed early Wednesday morning before going through a signing ceremony at Midwest City High.

After going through the signing motion again, Jones placed a Baylor hat that was much too small on top of his head.

"It's just a feeling that that's where I need to be," Jones said. "God closed the door at Arizona and I guess he just opened another up to me."
