Mike Gundy tells ESPN "Clint (Chelf) will go out there first" against Mississippi State

Did Mike Gundy finally make a starting quarterback announcement?

During an ESPN interview with Quint Kessenich that aired on College GameDay Saturday morning, the Oklahoma State coach said he has not yet decided how the game reps between Clint Chelf and J.W. Walsh will be divided Saturday, but that “Clint will go out there first.”

Gundy added that both quarterbacks deserved to play because of the way they performed last season. Both threw for more than 1,000 yards and won at least one Big 12 game, and Chelf was the MVP of the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Gundy said last week that he did not view either quarterback as a backup and suggested that the Cowboys would use a full platoon system, rather than the approach from down the stretch of 2012 that saw Chelf start and play the bulk of the snaps and Walsh enter the game to run a specialty package in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Gundy has said throughout the offseason that Chelf has first gone out with the starters during team drills in practice, but that he and Walsh have gotten equal reps during the workouts.
