Mike Hessman powers RedHawks past Zephyrs

Hessman homers twice in Oklahoma City's 12-9 victory over New Orleans.

Mike Hessman continued his torrid pace at the plate, and Oklahoma City capped its 12-game homestand with a 12-9 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday in front of 4,974 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Hessman homered twice, both two-run shots in the first and fourth innings, bringing his season total to 17.

The RedHawks (38-25) went 10-2 on the homestand.


Jimmy Paredes had four hits and scored four times.

Scott Moore also had a three-run homer in the second and finished with four RBIs.

Nick Green and Chase Lambin homered for New Orleans, which cut multiple OKC six-run leads to three.


Mickey Storey (4-2) earned the win in relief of Brian Bass with 1 2/3 innings. He struck out three.

Fernando Abad picked up the save a day after the RedHawks failed to close the game in the ninth inning.

New Orleans starter Wade LeBlanc lasted just 3 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs and 11 hits.


The RedHawks hit the road for 11 games over 12 days and begin with a three-game set in New Orleans on Monday at 7 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on KGHM-AM 1340.
