During tornado warnings, I've always listened to the advice of our meteorologists when they told the public to stay home, get to an inside room or closet, etc., if you don't have a cellar. On May 31, Mike Morgan said folks in south Oklahoma City needed to get in their cars and head south and that's exactly what many did! People were driving crazy. They were going south in northbound lanes, weaving in and out, passing where they shouldn't have. Interstates 35 and 44 in south Oklahoma City were parking lots.
Morgan's advice put lives in danger. It was irresponsible. Accounts on the news since simply say the traffic was due to rush hour or fear from the last storm. Morgan should apologize for having any part in this awful mess. He should be willing to bear some responsibility and never give out that kind of advice again.
While officials are praising the experts for keeping us informed, they should also be willing to be critical of poor advice.
