"Coaching defense has always been my passion," Stoops said. "You get very close to the defense. If the right opportunity presents itself, and it's a good arrangement, I would certainly be excited about it."

Mike Stoops, 49, was the defensive coordinator at OU under his brother for five seasons before being hired at Arizona at the end of the 2003 season. He was on NFL off-season rosters with the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons for two years before moving into coaching.

He began his coaching career at Iowa, spending six years at his alma mater. Mike Stoops was an assistant with Bob under Bill Snyder for seven years at Kansas State before joining Bob's staff at OU in 1999.

Mike Stoops said he will watch Bedlam Saturday night from his home in Tucson.

"It will be another classic game," Stoops said. "I'm looking forward to watching it."
