Millwood played without one of its star players Friday night in a Class 2A high school football playoff game.

The Falcons did not need him.

Running back Shevin Patton watched from the sideline as his teammates overwhelmed Coalgate 32-6 in a second-round matchup before an estimated 1,000 fans at L.W. Good Stadium. Millwood coach Tony Henry said Patton, one of the Falcons' several Division I recruits, sat out with “personal issues” and would not elaborate further.

But Millwood (12-0) obviously had too much firepower for Coalgate to handle. The Falcons scored all of their points in the first half, as quarterback Kevonte Richardson threw for two touchdowns and Texas oral commit Josh Turner ran for two.

“We came out in the first half and did some things that we wanted to do,” Henry said.

Millwood will host Stroud (11-1) in a third-round game at 7:30 p.m. next Friday. Stroud advanced with a 24-21 victory against Salina. Henry said Patton's status for next week's game is uncertain, but Millwood has plenty in its arsenal.

Richardson completed 11 of 18 passes for 287 yards against Coalgate, which could not match Millwood's speed. Wide receiver Brandon Swindall had a 68-yard touchdown, cutting across the field and blazing past Coalgate's defensive backs.

DeShawn Stephens did the same on a 32-yard TD catch. And Turner, who handled most of the running game with Patton sidelined, had 62- and 2-yard scores. Turner finished the game with 142 yards on 10 carries.
