Missing Kingfisher County grandmother drowned in vehicle

The Oklahoma medical examiner reported Monday the death of Betty Simon, 77, was an accident. Simon was found Saturday morning by a volunteer search party.

The Kingfisher County grandmother who was missing for more than a week drowned in her vehicle, the Oklahoma medical examiner's office reported Monday.

Betty Simon, 77, had been missing more than a week when she was found dead inside her vehicle Saturday morning by a volunteer search party.

Her death was ruled an accident, said Amy Elliott, spokeswoman for the state medical examiner.

Investigators with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department said Simon's vehicle was found upside down in a shallow creek in northwest Oklahoma County. It was pulled out of the creek about 3 p.m.

Simon had been missing since June 20 after she left a rehabilitation center in northwest Oklahoma City where she was visiting her husband.
