Mobile medical aid in Rockaways, Coney Island

Associated Press Published: November 5, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City now has several mobile medical units in the Rockaways area of Queens and on Coney Island in Brooklyn.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the medical vans will arrive Tuesday on Staten Island.

The staff can provide medical care and distribute commonly prescribed drugs.

The city said Monday that volunteers have been going door-to-door to address the medical needs of those who remain in their homes, often without heat and power.

In addition, the Human Resources Administration, along with FEMA search and rescue, will continue to target high-risk households until power is restored.
