A mother was arrested on drug and child endangerment complaints after she fled an Oklahoma County sheriff's deputy, authorities report.

Tonya Ann Chatham, 25, was arrested Saturday following a vehicle pursuit that ended near Interstate 40 and Scott Street, according to a sheriff's report released Monday.

The deputy noticed a Jeep parked in the middle of the street near S Linn and W California avenues and noticed a woman sitting inside. When the deputy attempted to speak with the woman, she took off at a high rate of speed, according to the report.

The deputy reports the woman drove in a reckless manner at speeds in excess of 100 mph. During the pursuit, the deputy saw the woman toss a syringe out of her vehicle.

Once she stopped her Jeep, deputies found the woman's toddler in a car seat in the back seat.

Deputies recovered the syringe and found it contained a liquid consistent with heroin. Chatham admitted to injecting heroin, according to the report.

The child was placed in custody of the state Department of Human Services. Chatham was cleared by medical staff and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of eluding an officer, child endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and throwing litter on a highway.

Chatham was released Sunday on $17,500 bail. has disabled the comments for this article.
