Jayme Shelton, 29, who held various positions at banks in Purcell and Stillwater, is a member of the Purcell City Council. He has a degree in finance from Oklahoma State University.

Shelton is developing and promoting Moore Library's business materials and services. A Business Resource Center will open in October at the library.

Shelton's services also will be available at Pioneer Library System's new branch under construction at 2201 SW 134 in Oklahoma City. The library system serves Cleveland, McClain and Pottawatomie counties.

Shelton is developing partnerships with the Moore-Norman Technology Center, Rural Enterprises Women's Business Center, the Moore Chamber of Commerce and other groups.

When meeting with business owners, Shelton said, his intent is to "listen to what their needs are and help connect them to the resources in the community. I teach them how to fish. I don't do it for them."

Through the library, business owners can get demographic data that will help them make business decisions, he said. Information is available on such topics as customer service, respect in the workplace, stereotypes, team building, interview training and supervisory skills.

Starting in October, he plans to offer training programs of interest to business owners on topics including taxes. A book discussion club also is planned.

The library offers free computer classes on various topics each month that may be of interest to business owners and their employees, he added.
