Blood donors can ‘FEEL FIERCE’ about giving Thursday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at an Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) summer blood drive sponsored by MooreNormanTechnologyCenter, located at 134th & SouthPenn.
Donors will experience the satisfaction of saving as many as three peoples’ lives! Each will receive a voucher, redeemable for two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo and a T-shirt, featuring the Zoo’s fierce lion.
“Summer is a time for fun, including visits to the Zoo,” said John Armitage, M.D., OBI president and CEO, “but first, we can ease concerns for those in our area who rely on blood donors by taking just an hour to give.”
Since there is no substitute for human blood, supplies must constantly be renewed. Oklahoma Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed by patients in 144 state medical facilities including all metro hospitals.
Anyone who is healthy and 16 years of age* can usually give blood, and donations can be made every 56 days. Health screenings and Donor Rewards points, redeemable in OBI’s online store, are also provided to donors.
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund (GBF), any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, funds so designated will then be contributed to GBF for supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
