— The thought of a child with no gifts to open on Christmas morning was too much for Daniel Melendez.

He and fellow Moore Police Department officers took 25 children to Target on Saturday for “Shop With a Cop.”

Many police departments across the state participate in the event.

Melendez met his shopping partner for breakfast at Chick-fil-A in Moore, then drove to Target, where the store had provided $150 gift cards for the kids to shop with.

Melendez said he participated last year and was moved by the experience.

“One of the things that really touched me was that the kids weren't shopping just for themselves. They were looking to get gifts for siblings and parents,” he said.

“That really touched my heart, because they were smart enough and kind enough and giving enough to pay it forward.”
