More bad news on the economy, more dodging by the president

President Barack Obama boasted during a campaign stop last week in Ohio that, “The (health care) law I passed is here to stay.” It was classic Obama — he loves to take credit when the news is good, and equally quick to point blame elsewhere when it's not.

He used “I” a lot in remarks at the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's elimination. That was the high point of his presidency, and he deserved credit for giving the order, but his “look at what I did” theme was off-putting and a disservice to the brave men who carried out the mission.

The health care bill, one of the president's two signature initiatives (the other being the stimulus), is something for him to crow about because the Supreme Court declared it constitutional. So it's become in Obama's view “the law I passed.”

But what about the economy, which remains a disaster? For that he has blamed the policies of his predecessor George W. Bush, or economic problems in Europe, or obstructionist Republicans in Congress, or even last year's tsunami in Japan. Anyone but his administration and his policies.
