Taxpayers' costs associated with the impeachment investigation and trial of state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher have topped $166,000, with more costs expected despite Fisher's resignation Friday.

So far, costs for the House of Representatives to conduct an investigation and meet in session to vote on articles of impeachment have been $160,000, said Larry Warden, House administrator.

He said he expects the House to get another attorney's bill later, in connection with the House's role in the impeachment process, Warden said.

The state Senate's costs are just $6,000 so far, but there still are outstanding bills, said Robin Maxey, Senate spokesman.

The Senate met Sept. 14 to organize as a Court of Impeachment and was set to open the trial of Fisher on Monday. The trial won't be held, but the Court of Impeachment will meet Monday anyway to officially adjourn.

Maxey said some pending costs will include mileage for Senate sergeants-at-arms and costs for delivering subpoenas to witnesses for the impeachment trial.
