More details on 8th annual ComicsPRO meeting

by Matthew Price Published: February 26, 2014

The ComicsPRO annual members meeting will start in earnest tomorrow, with a meet-and-greet among members set for tonight.

Thomas Gaul, the president of ComicsPRO’s board of directors, let me know that he welcomes member and non-member stores to the annual meeting, which features opportunities to interact with 30 of the comics’ market’s top vendors.

“I want to let retailers know that you don’t have to be a member to get in on this,” Gaul said.  “If any of this interests non-member stores, they can head over to http://www.comicspro.org and take a look at the details. Whether someone has been on the fence about joining the organization, or just wants to know more about what we do, this could be a great opportunity to give it a test drive. No pressure to join; We just want as many comics retailers as possible to come hang with us, meet a bunch of great retailers, take it all in, and hopefully have some fun.”

Retailers looking to join in at the last minute should e-mail marco (at) comicspro.org.

The following is the news release from ComicsPRO about this year’s meeting:

8th Annual ComicsPRO Meeting Returns to Atlanta

Retailers, Publishers and Suppliers to meet February 27-March 1st

The 8th Annual ComicsPRO Meeting returns to Atlanta February 27 – March 1,

bringing together nearly 200 comic book retailers and vendors to discuss major

industry issues and to develop ways to improve the comic book specialty market.

The new location of this year’s event is Atlanta’s Downtown Hilton.

Keynote Speaker. In addition to being a writer, former Editor-in-Chief and later

Chief Creative Officer of Boom! Studios and digital publisher with Thrillbent,

Waid now is also co-owner of two comic book specialty stores.

Every retailer attending is presented with a gift bag that will include graphic

novels, toys, promotional items, and exclusive comics from meeting sponsors.

“The giveaways are incredible this year!” said ComicsPRO President Thomas Gaul.

“Our sponsors have been very gracious in donating exclusive merchandise.

Retailers are going to be very happy.”

Thursday, February 27th, is dedicated to DC Entertainment. Throughout the day,

retailers will meet with DC Entertainment’s top brass to discuss the state of

the industry and to learn about plans from various departments, including DC

Collectibles, DC Digital and Sales and Marketing.

More than two dozen other vendors join the annual meeting on Friday, February

28th and Saturday, March 1st. Both days will consist of vendor presentations,

roundtables, and workshops. Roundtable sessions give each of the participating

vendors an opportunity to meet with each attending retailer in a small group

setting

Also on the agenda are workshops with Q&A sessions led by industry

professionals. There will be six workshops:

• Promotion/Marketing

• Community Outreach

• Comic Book Grading seminar led by CGC

• Distribution: A Publisher’s Perspective.

donated items with all proceeds going to benefit the CBLDF. Attendees are

invited to come before the auction for a reception sponsored by Dynamite

The ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting is recognized as perhaps the most

important annual retailer gathering in the industry. Retailers, publishers,

distributors and vendors gather to discuss major industry issues and to develop

ways to improve the comic book specialty market. All retailers and vendors

interested in reaching comic book retailers are invited. ComicsPRO members also

use this meeting as an opportunity to discuss the organization’s current

projects and plans.

ComicsPRO is a non-profit trade association dedicated to the health and progress

of direct market comic book retailers. ComicsPRO allows retailers to speak with

a unified voice on important industry issues, provides educational and mentoring

opportunities to current and future retailers, and provides ways for members to

reduce the fixed costs we all incur.
