More Edmond city workers make their move

The big move out of Edmond's administration building at 100 E First St. was under way on Monday. The move to 7 N Broadway is expected to continue throughout the week.

— One of the biggest challenges to moving city offices from one building to another is staying open for business during the process.

“The key to the move is being able to keep the city's business going,” said Ross VanderHamm, city finance director. “We need to continue to do business. That is critical.”

Employees continued to move out of the administration building at 100 E First St. on Monday. The move to 7 N Broadway is expected to continue throughout the week.

The move is necessary because the administration building is being demolished to make room for a new public safety center.

People have to continue to pay their water bills, and city invoices must be paid on time.

Some employees loaded rolling carts with whatever they needed to get their jobs done this week.

“We are ready to get this done,” Sheila Briesch, a city account manager, said as she gathered her ivy plants from her old office and headed to her new “temporary” office. “We will now look for a permanent home.”

City officials have leased the downtown Hargrove building for the next five years. A permanent location for about 50 city employees has not been determined.

The move was delayed about three weeks while renovations at the new offices were completed.

A “final calendar” was scribbled on one of the walls at the administration building as employees kept track of when the move was supposed to happen and when it didn't.
