More than $7,000 was raised for long-time Oklahoma City drummer Derek Dugger at a musical event at 66 Bowl on Saturday.

In the event organized by Dugger’s hot rod car club, The Roadkillers, 14 bands played, and items were auctioned from metal art to pin-up posters for the cause.

All proceeds went to Dugger.

Dugger, 46, has an aggressive form of brain cancer and had to have a malignant tumor removed. He is facing lengthy radiation and chemotherapy.

Since the mid-1980s, Dugger has played in a number of Oklahoma City-area bands from alternative punk to rockabilly.

Dugger did not have health insurance when he was diagnosed in September.

Despite his battle with cancer, Dugger drummed with opening band Brian Dunning and the Rock-n-Roll Trio, The R.I.P Tides, The Poison Okies, Mack Stevens and Lil Rachel.

He has said he plans to keep drumming as long as physically able.

Mike Mulcahy, a member of Dugger’s car club, said the event he helped organize showed camaraderie in car culture with a number of other classic car enthusiasts helping out as well as those interested in rock ’n’ roll.

Dugger’s recovery is the top priority, and efforts to help will continue, Mulcahy said.

"We put ourselves out there. He is a friend of ours. What we didn’t want happening was him to lose his house. So,, we got on this project and made this happen,” Mulcahy said. "Failure is not an option when it is one of ours.”

A fund to help Dugger with his medical expenses has been set up.

Anyone wanting to make a donation can mail a check payable to Derek Dugger Support Trust to MidFirst Bank, P.O. Box 76149, Oklahoma City, OK 73147.
