So now we can quit calling Rainy Williams’ project the “mystery tower” or the “Stage Center site tower.” We now know quite a bit more about the development.
Some quick comments:
Don’t get caught up on height. The OGE Tower is shorter than some may have expected, and shorter than the “at least 20 stories” previously indicated. But the plan changed. There is also more ahead than what you see. There is one more tower now firmly in development beyond what is being shown in renderings today. And I’m tracking up to two more towers, one of which also is appearing to be an increasingly real deal as well. If * current trends continue, this skyline has a lot of change yet to take place.
Note what is and isn’t going to be included in the Stage Center development. Note what other activity and growth is occurring nearby. Try to look at it from a distance, and not get caught up in what one might wish or hope for without taking into account real life financing, development demands, competing interests, etc.
It’s difficult to explain what is taking place, especially to those online who want to know everything about these projects and are emotionally tied into this discussion. I wish I could share with you the bigger picture. I’ll do my best to share what I can when I can when it won’t jeopardize or manipulate pending deals and maintain the confidence of my various sources. But right now, it appears this downtown Oklahoma City skyline transformation is far from finished. I believe, based on what I’m following, and if current trends continue, we will have a fully developed downtown stretching from Classen Boulevard to I-235 and from NW 13 to Reno Avenue by 2020.
