  • Mid-Del student writes letter to mayor, learns about democracy

    MIDWEST CITY — When 7-year-old Lenora Simmons saw a problem in her community and suggested a solution, she got a lesson in democracy that will last her a lifetime. Prompted by a social studies assignment to find a way to make her community better, the Ridgecrest Elementary second-grader sent a letter to Mayor Jack Fry requesting a no-parking zone be established in front of her school to minimize traffic congestion and increase safety. To Lenora's surprise, Fry sent her a letter back. “It's heartwarming to hear from even our youngest citizens about issues in our community,” Fry said. “It is also good to know that one person, even one that is 7 years old, can make a difference.

  • Del City man arrested in connection with shooting death of teenage relative

    Police arrested a man Friday in connection with the shooting death of a teenage relative. Lochinvar Caldwell, 56, was arrested Friday and booked in Oklahoma County jail, where he was being held Saturday afternoon. Caldwell’s bond has not been set.
