Jason Kersey became The Oklahoman's OU football beat writer in May 2012 after a year covering high school sports and OSU recruiting. Before joining the newspaper in November 2006 as a part-time results clerk, he covered high school football for the Newcastle Pacer. During his time with The Oklahoman, he has also coordinated Thunder coverage, worked on the copy desk and covered several NFL games, including Super Bowl XLV. A Noble High School and OU graduate, he lives in Norman.

  • Oklahoma football: Frank Shannon no longer on Sooners' roster

    A day after the Oklahoma Supreme Court dissolved a stay allowing linebacker Frank Shannon to remain in school and part of the football team, Shannon was removed from the Sooners’ football roster. Shannon had dressed out for the first two games of the season but had not played as he fought a one-year suspension in court. Shannon was suspended following a Title IX sexual assault investigation by the school after a female student alleged that Shannon sexually assaulted her at his off-campus apartment in late January. No criminal charges were filed in the incident. PERINE LOOKING FORWARD TO VOLS Sooners freshman running back Samaje Perine is looking forward to Saturday’s matchup against Tennessee.

    Frank Shannon’s attorney asserted that the University of Oklahoma’s Title IX office has gone “overboard” in its sexual misconduct investigations out of fear the school will lose federal funding. Statistics obtained Monday by The Oklahoman through an open records request show that of 23 Title IX cases in 2014 involving nonconsensual sexual conduct on the Norman campus, only two — Shannon presumably included — ended with policy violations being found.
