  • OU Football: Could the Sooners' signing day surprise contribute immediately?

FROM STAFF REPORTS | Updated: Wed, Feb 3, 2016

National Signing Day started off with a Sooner surprise when four-star receiver Mykel Jones of Patterson (La.) High School signed with Oklahoma. Jones (6-0, 180 pounds) visited Alabama and Tennessee before cancelling a trip to Ole Miss last weekend in favor of a Norman visit. "He's a major get," said Jason Kersey, OU beat writer for The Oklahoman, in this video with Jenni Carlson. "They needed at least one more wide receiver with what they were losing, and in Lincoln Riley's offense you can never have enough receivers." Jones made his announcement in the Patterson gymnasium Wednesday morning. After thanking his family, friends and supporters, he acknowledged how stressful the decision had been.

  • Press Row Podcast: Will this be the Bedlam of Oklahoma's dreams?

    Updated: Wed, Nov 18, 2015

The Press Row podcast is back, with The Oklahoman's Berry Tramel, Jenni Carlson and Mike Sherman discussing what could be the Bedlam football game of Oklahoma's dreams. Premature? Yes, by at least a week. Oklahoma still has TCU in Norman and Oklahoma State has Baylor in Stillwater this Saturday. But the College Football Playoff race, Mike Gundy Unbeaten and Baker Mayfield's out-of-the-blue Heisman Trophy candidacy have the potential to add even more compelling storylines to the state's biggest annual sporting event. • Column: Kevin Durant's most recent homecoming was disastrous for Washington

    Published: Wed, Nov 11, 2015

The Washington Post's Jerry Brewer writes that the Wizards 125-101 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday was "so horrible, so sobering, it should force KD2DC dreamers to prepare for the possibility that a homecoming isn’t meant to be." Here's some other nuggets from Brewer's column:  -- "Given the opportunity to impress home-bred free agent-to-be  Kevin Durant , the Wizards watched the evening turn into one of those calamitous D.C. sporting lows that makes people swear the local teams are cursed." -- "On this splendid occasion, a portion of the crowd booed Durant, the man it is supposed to be wooing. ... One fan held up a neon sign asking Durant to come home. The sign should’ve requested that Durant forget this day ever happened." -- "If it was painful to watch the Wizards fail to make a lasting impression, imagine the disappointment if Durant doesn’t choose the Wizards next July, and the franchise doesn’t have an adequate fallback option."
