Entertainment Writer and LOOKatOKC Editor Nathan Poppe, is a documenter of all things entertaining. The Middle of Nowhere is his blog and a depository of everything that makes the Midwest unique. The coasts have a massive amount of influence on the country, but everything winds up funneling its way to the middle. So Poppe scoops it up and displays it all here. His other duties include editing the Weekend Life section and LOOKatOKC. He has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Oklahoma State University and has collaborated with hundreds of local and national musicians. Poppe joined the Features section at The Oklahoman in March 2014.

    In a strange turn of events, Oklahoma City-based hip hop performer Jabee Williams was booted off of KSBI's “Oklahoma Live!” set Monday morning. According to a statement issued Monday afternoon, Williams, 30, and his backing band were unloading equipment when executive producer Ted Maguire met with Williams in KSBI's studio. Jabee was told there was an oversight and his band needed to leave. When pressed for more information about the oversight, the statement claimed Maguire had not realized Jabee was a hip-hop act and the station was moving in a different direction with its music guests. “It was a blatant form of discrimination,” Williams shared in a Facebook post. “We were treated and talked to so rudely that we

    It fills The Middle of Nowhere with great joy and sadness to debut a track off of Kyle Reid & the Low Swinging Chariot’s upcoming album, “Alright, Here We Go.” That’s pretend sadness though because the album sounds great and the new track “When I Was Young” is an excellent way to kick things off for the New Orleans-infused album. The bands’ frontman, Reid, is based in Norman, and he took time during his lunch break to chat about the above song’s origin. He said an early version of the track was written as a gift to a worrisome friend. She was haunted by a dream of her teeth falling out and Reid intended for the song to be a life-affirming present.
