Trent Shadid is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He was born and raised in Weatherford, Okla., and attended Weatherford High School. Before joining The Oklahoman, he spent two seasons as an assistant wrestling coach at Weatherford High School.

    Washington was picked by the coaches to win District 2A-3 this season, just ahead of defending champion Lindsay. The Warriors’ most pressing void to fill from a season ago is at quarterback, where Glenn Stowe is set to be the starter. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior is replacing graduated standout Brock Harmon. “Glenn had been a wide receiver for a long time, but we knew we’d have a day when we’d have to replace Brock, so we started working him at quarterback,” said Washington coach Brad Beller. “We’ve tweaked the offense a little bit, because Brock could do things that other guys just can’t do. Also, Glenn has a lot of veterans around him that can help ease him into his role.

    Edmond Memorial running back Warren Wand isn’t ready to say he’s verbally committed to Arkansas State. It was reported nearly two weeks ago by various media outlets that Wand had committed to the Red Wolves, but Memorial coach Justin Merideth told The Oklahoman on Friday that his star running back hasn’t made that decision, though one could come as early as next week. “He’s not ready to let anybody know,” Merideth said. Wand, who is No. 11 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30, also has offers from New Mexico and Southern Mississippi.     Last season, Del City quarterback Terry Wilson won a three-way battle for the starting job as only a 15-year-old sophomore. At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, his size, arm strength, and running ability made him one of the most talented young players in the state. After accounting for seven touchdowns over four games, Wilson’s season ended with a broken collarbone in Week 5. Since then, he’s continued to develop the mental side of his game to go along with his natural abilities.
