Brandy McDonnell, also known by her initials BAM, writes stories and reviews on movies, music, the arts and other aspects of entertainment. She is NewsOK’s top blogger: Her 4-year-old entertainment news blog, BAM’s Blog, has notched more than 1 million page views a year for the past two years. Raised on a crop and cattle farm near Lindsay, McDonnell started her journalism career in seventh grade, when she was elected reporter for her school’s 4-H Club. Taking her duties seriously, she began submitting stories to The Lindsay News and worked for the local weekly through high school. An Oklahoma State University graduate, she will celebrate her 10th anniversary at The Oklahoman in May 2012.

    Needs & Deeds: The Older and Bolder Dancers of Oklahoma City may tear up a dance floor with the vigor of youngsters, but the nonprofit dance troupe is made up of women and men 62 and older. The group performs primarily in nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, assisted-living centers and adult day care facilities throughout the metro area.

    A Memorial Day weekend tradition, the 40th annual Paseo Arts Festival in Oklahoma City will feature 86 visiting artists from across the state, region and country, plus 85 neighborhood artists, along with three stages featuring live local music, more than a dozen food vendors, a beer garden, two children’s art areas and plenty of colorful characters. For the past decade, artist Collin Rosebrook has been working to evolve the former street party and hippie flea market into the nationally recognized juried fine-arts festival it has become, while keeping the free-spirited vibe that makes the event — and the Paseo — unique.

    Growing up in a Romanian orphanage, Iancu “Bunee” Tomlinson became notorious for sneaking out to explore the world beyond his prisonlike existence. These days, Tomlinson uses filmmaking to explore the world. His burgeoning moviemaking career is taking the Edmond Memorial High School graduate this weekend to France, where his autobiographical short film, “Bunee: The Boy From Constanta,” has been selected for the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.
