NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Grand Ole Opry, presented by Humana, honored six-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood on her fifth anniversary as an Opry member Friday evening, and the Checotah native celebrated by closing the first of two shows with a special segment full of her music.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is exploring superstar Carrie Underwood’s critically acclaimed world tour with the exhibition “Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour,” which opened earlier this week, and remains on view through Nov. 10.

7:00 p.m.: Country music awards show or not, starting out with Lenny Kravitz is never, ever a bad thing in my opinion. The CMT Music Awards are opening with a rock ‘n’ roll collaboration between Kravitz and tonight’s co-host, country music superstar Jason Aldean, on the Canadian band the Guess Who’s classic hit “American Woman.” Kravitz initially covered this song back in ’99, and even if they don’t seem to have all the kinks worked out up there, he and Aldean seem to be having fun.

Checotah native Carrie Underwood is planning to pay tribute to the victims of Oklahoma’s deadly and devastating May tornadoes  during tonight’s CMT Music Awards. As Carrie Underwood wraps her 2012-13 “Blown Away Tour” tonight in Abbotsford, B.C., Canada, a $1 million donation is being made to the Red Cross for disaster relief. The charitable contribution to the Red Cross derives from the tour’s concert proceeds and was established when it launched in spring 2012.

There has been an incredible outpouring of prayers and sympathy from around the world since deadly and devastating tornadoes ripped through Moore and south Oklahoma City this afternoon, less than a day after Shawnee and Carney were among the Oklahoma towns to be ravaged Sunday by twisters.

George Jones’ funeral is taking place this morning at The Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. As previously reported, the service is open to the public. National television networks CMT, GAC, RFD, and FamilyNet, as well as local Nashville stations WKRN 2, WSMV 4, WTVF 5, WZTV 17 are broadcasting the funeral service live, with radio partners WSM 650AM and SiriusXM Willie’s Roadhouse (Channel 56) broadcasting the service.
