An all-star team made up from these two rosters will play a Tulsa-area all-star team in a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Bishop McGuinness. OCS’ Ken McQueen and Tecumseh’s Chad Trahan will coach the Oklahoma City team.

All season, Douglass runner Anthonio Humphrey had his sights set on breaking 1 minute, 56 seconds in the 800 meters. He broke that mark, and then some, in the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Meet of Champions Tuesday night at Yukon High School. Humphrey pulled within two seconds of the state record for the 800, winning in a time of 1:53.64. The state record of 1:51.70 is shared by Quintell Wilson of Edmond North (2007) and Justin Nobles of Elgin (2001). “This just pushes me closer to that state record and will keep me working even harder over the summer, so I can try to drop those last two seconds,” said Humphrey, a junior. “Maybe this got the attention of some college coaches, I hope. A farewell to people with Oklahoma ties who enjoyed the game day experience: *Roy Lotspeich earned a degree in agriculture from Oklahoma A&M; while doing so, he rode bulls for the Aggies' rodeo team. He later co-owned Laverne Downs Racetrack from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s. Lotspeich also bred and raised race horses. A farmer and rancher by trade, Lotspeich was a Rosston resident at the time of death at age 81. *Michael Stoltz, 26, was an infielder for the Midwest City High School baseball team. The 2005 Oklahoman All-City honorable mention selection played for American Legion teams, the Outlaws and Bandits. He also played junior college ball at Rose State. BY RYAN ABER raber@opubco.com Edmond Memorial assistant coach Dan Kurtenbach was named the head coach at Weatherford earlier this week. Kurtenbach has been an assistant coach for the Bulldogs for the last four seasons. He was the head coach at Casady in 2007 and 2008. Before that, he held assistant coaching jobs at Broken Arrow, Shawnee and Midwest City. Kurtenbach replaces Mickey Seifried, who took the job as the technology director of Weatherford Public Schools. Seifried went 30-26 in five seasons as the head coach at Weatherford, including a 12-1 season in 2009. The Eagles went 7-5 in 2012. Before becoming the head coach, Seifried spent eight seasons as an assistant at the school.

Edmond Memorial product and two-time Class 6A state champion Taylor Moore made the quick jump to success at the next level. The Arkansas golfer was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Year on Wednesday. Moore had four top-25 finishes in six tournaments and finished under par in two events. He had two top-10 finishes and a season stroke average of 73.87. He was 27th recently at the SEC Tournament, thanks to a strong finish, playing the course in 2-under-par over the final 36 holes. – Scott Wright, swright@opubco.

BY RYAN ABER raber@opubco.com Edmond Memorial’s Chloe Webber and Edmond North’s Hannah Dowell signed to play lacrosse at Oklahoma Baptist University. Webber is an attacker and Dowell is a midfielder. “I am excited to add more girls to next year’s roster who are local so that we can continue to grow the sport throughout Oklahoma,” Lady Bison coach Katy Mohr said in a release. OBU is in its first season of women’s lacrosse. The addition of the sport was announced in 2010 along with the additions of football and swimming. Oklahoma Baptist is playing an independent schedule this year, going 1-4 through its first five games. The Lady Bison host Missouri State on March 30.

Edmond North's Jade Patton hopes to be back at the Class 6A state track meet as a senior next year, but her sister's last chance at state came Saturday at Yukon High School. That made the 100-meter dash even more special for the Pattons. Jade Patton won the event with a time of 12.03 seconds, and sister Jordan Patton got on the medal stand as well, with a sixth-place finish at 12.88. Joining them was teammate Quinn Patterson in fourth at 12.50. “That was really fun,” Jade Patton said. “My sister was really nervous at first, but she got on the podium and we were all really happy. It was just fun.” Jade Patton added a second-place finish in the 200 meters at 25.06.
