    The Red Earth MFA program at Oklahoma City University will host two free, public literary readings in July as part of its summer residency. Nationally recognized writers and Red Earth faculty members will give a reading at the Edmond Public Library at 6:30 p.m. July 16. The residency’s two visiting writers will give a reading at 7 p.m. July 18 at OCU in the University Center Great Hall. Books will be available for purchase and signing at both events.

  • Prix de West Award Winners Named During Opening Weekend Some Works Remain for Sale

    The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum hosted more than 800 guests at the 40thAnniversary of the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale during opening weekend June 7-8, 2013.  Sales for the weekend sat at $3.1 million with a portion going to fund the Museum’s programs and operations. The exhibit and sale features 295 works in sculpture and painting by 101 contemporary Western artists. The works will be on display at the Museum through Aug. 4, 2013. Invited exhibiting artists bring a diversity of styles to this prestigious art exhibition with fine art works ranging from historical pieces reflecting the early days of the West, to more contemporary and impressionistic works of art.

    In a special format this year, a delicious gourmet box dinner by Legend’s restaurant will be offered prior to performances by Oklahoma Festival Ballet (OFB) and Contemporary Dance Oklahoma (CDO). The dinner, which begins one hour and fifteen minutes before each show, will include an informal chat with the choreographers. A champagne and dessert reception will follow each performance, offering dance-lovers an opportunity to meet and mingle with the performers and choreographers. The program will include “Weill Songs” choreographed by OFB director Mary Margaret Holt to music by Kurt Weill.
