  • EW cover showcases 'Batman v Superman'

    Published: Thu, Jul 2, 2015

Entertainment Weekly showcases Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman in its Comic-Con themed issue. From EW: Batman v Superman introduces a new Batman only four years after the release of the final film in Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. Ben Affleck plays an older, wearier Caped Crusader, one drawn at least in part from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. “He’s on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it,” says Affleck. “But this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical.” The film, directed by Zack Snyder, is set for a March 26, 2016 release date.

  • Oklahoma comic creators and patriotic heroes

Matthew Price | Updated: Wed, Jul 1, 2015

With Independence Day nearing, I recently asked a group of comic creators about patriotic heroes with ties to Oklahoma.  The two gentlemen I talked to about their creations from that query were Kevin Stark and Mike Buckendorf.  Stark may be best-known for his role in starting, and then curating, the Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley.  But he's an artist with decades of experience in toy design, art, sculpture, painting and much more.   You've probably seen his work in the toy aisles on properties like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Simpsons. His character, Geezer, is a 79-year-old hero who found a rocket giving him super abilities.
