‘Yesterday's Enterprise' a highlight of exceptional season

A version of this review appears in Friday’s Weekend Look section of The Oklahoman. “Cloud Atlas” With three co-writer/directors, a star-studded international cast and six interconnected stories, maybe it’s not a surprise that “Cloud Atlas” is such a surprising cinematic creation: a big-budget spectacle and weighty art-house drama all in one.

The revenge thriller “Rolling Thunder” (1977) was also one of the better offerings from low-budget specialists American International Pictures.

“Frankie Go Boom” oversells everything until the whole enterprise gets stinking drunk on its own wackiness.

“Cloud Atlas” is a sweeping film with six narratives that span 500 years, starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

Director Mickey Reece does not flinch in his depiction of rural meth addicts in “Tarsus,” screening at 8 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma Contemporary, 3000 Pershing Blvd. at State Fair Park.
