    Kina Boone, Choctaw Class: Senior The story: A strong player the last two years, Boone closed her career with the best finish of any metro-area player at the Class 6A state tournament, tying for fifth with a 76, while her team took fourth overall. Player of the Year Caroline Goodin, Deer Creek Class: Senior The story: Goodin, who has signed with Oklahoma City University, won four times and never finished outside the top five in nine tournaments. She was especially strong late in the year, winning the Suburban Conference and 5A west regional before finishing runner-up at state to lead her team to the title.

    Eli Armstrong, Edmond North Class: Senior The story: Edmond North's only senior in the top five, Armstrong wasn't flashy but incredibly consistent. With Armstrong's 74.1 stroke average, the Huskies only dropped his score once all year, and he went low to win the 6A west regional. Headed to Central Oklahoma. Nick Heinen, Edmond North Class: Junior The story: Verbally committed to Oklahoma State, Heinen has been one of the state's top players the last two years. This season, he tied for first at state, falling to Max McGreevy in a playoff. Six top-fives and a 72.1 stroke average. Tyler Johnson, Norman North Class: Sophomore The story: Like Heinen, Johnson tied for first at the 6A state

An all-star team made up from these two rosters will play a Tulsa-area all-star team in a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Bishop McGuinness. OCS’ Ken McQueen and Tecumseh’s Chad Trahan will coach the Oklahoma City team.

    All season, Douglass runner Anthonio Humphrey had his sights set on breaking 1 minute, 56 seconds in the 800 meters. He broke that mark, and then some, in the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Meet of Champions Tuesday night at Yukon High School. Humphrey pulled within two seconds of the state record for the 800, winning in a time of 1:53.64. The state record of 1:51.70 is shared by Quintell Wilson of Edmond North (2007) and Justin Nobles of Elgin (2001). “This just pushes me closer to that state record and will keep me working even harder over the summer, so I can try to drop those last two seconds,” said Humphrey, a junior. “Maybe this got the attention of some college coaches, I hope.     Bethany's new boys basketball coach knows what it takes to win a state championship with the Bronchos. He did it as a player in 2001. Now, Aaron Toler will try to do it as the team's coach. He was recently promoted after serving as Phil Brown's assistant. Brown retired from coaching to focus in his duties as athletic director and teacher at Bethany. Toler is the brother of Oklahoma Christian coach Trent Toler. In other coaching moves, Bethany hired Harrah's Grant Ledbetter, formerly a player at Putnam City West and Southern Nazarene, as its new baseball coach.     Edmond North’s Jeremy Dombek will leave to become the new head football coach at Mustang High School, pending the approval of the Mustang school board at its meeting Monday night, sources have told The Oklahoman. The Mustang school board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday. Dombek will replace Ty Prestidge, who resigned on May 3 to take an offensive coordinator position with longtime friend Todd Dilbeck at Choctaw. Dombek was expected to address his team at Edmond North Monday morning, according to sources. Pending board approval, Dombek would be able to begin working with his new team at Mustang Tuesday.     BY RYAN ABER raber@opubco.com Edmond Memorial’s Chloe Webber and Edmond North’s Hannah Dowell signed to play lacrosse at Oklahoma Baptist University. Webber is an attacker and Dowell is a midfielder. “I am excited to add more girls to next year’s roster who are local so that we can continue to grow the sport throughout Oklahoma,” Lady Bison coach Katy Mohr said in a release. OBU is in its first season of women’s lacrosse. The addition of the sport was announced in 2010 along with the additions of football and swimming. Oklahoma Baptist is playing an independent schedule this year, going 1-4 through its first five games. The Lady Bison host Missouri State on March 30.
