Oklahoma track Meet of Champions: Douglass' Anthonio Humphrey edges closer to record

All season, Douglass runner Anthonio Humphrey had his sights set on breaking 1 minute, 56 seconds in the 800 meters. He broke that mark, and then some, in the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Meet of Champions Tuesday night at Yukon High School. Humphrey pulled within two seconds of the state record for the 800, winning in a time of 1:53.64. The state record of 1:51.70 is shared by Quintell Wilson of Edmond North (2007) and Justin Nobles of Elgin (2001). “This just pushes me closer to that state record and will keep me working even harder over the summer, so I can try to drop those last two seconds,” said Humphrey, a junior. “Maybe this got the attention of some college coaches, I hope. Bethany's new boys basketball coach knows what it takes to win a state championship with the Bronchos. He did it as a player in 2001. Now, Aaron Toler will try to do it as the team's coach. He was recently promoted after serving as Phil Brown's assistant. Brown retired from coaching to focus in his duties as athletic director and teacher at Bethany. Toler is the brother of Oklahoma Christian coach Trent Toler. In other coaching moves, Bethany hired Harrah's Grant Ledbetter, formerly a player at Putnam City West and Southern Nazarene, as its new baseball coach. And the softball team promoted Jordan Wisniewski from assistant to head coach. Bethany also hopes to fill its vacant girls basketball coaching

Dylan Bundy named No. 2 prospect by MLB.com

Former Owasso right-hander Dylan Bundy is entering just his second full season as a professional baseball player, but his status continued rising Tuesday when he was revealed as the No. 2 prospect on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects. Former Broken Arrow standout Archie Bradley is No. 24 while former Putnam City and Oklahoma State left-hander Andrew Heaney is No. 81. Bundy, 20, made his MLB debut last season for the Baltimore Orioles, appearing in two games out of the bullpen. Putnam City's Schuyler Wood laid on the track, crumpled in pain and frustration, not 50 feet from where she stood an hour earlier to receive her gold medal. Wood experienced the best and worst of the Class 6A state track meet Friday at Yukon.

Prep notebook: Todd Dilbeck to be named Choctaw football coach

After seven seasons, Todd Dilbeck is returning to Oklahoma, where he is expected to be named the football coach and athletic director at Choctaw, pending school board approval. Dilbeck has coached at multiple programs in the state, including Tahlequah and Mustang. He was one of the first high school coaches in the state to implement and succeed with a multiple-receiver, spread offense that gained popularity in the mid-2000s. He coached Mustang to the Class 6A state championship game in 2005, losing 33-7 to Tulsa Union. He left after that season to join Todd Graham's coaching staff at Rice University for one year, then went to Alma (Ark.) High School for six years.

A farewell to those with Oklahoma ties who enjoyed the game day experience: *Former Ada High School football and basketball standout Harly Day died at age 89. Day played on the 1947 Oklahoma basketball team that finished as NCAA runner-up. He spent several years as head basketball coach at Chickasha High School, guiding the Chicks to state championships in 1953 and 1955. The 1954 team finished as state runner-up. Day spent more than 20 years as the high school principal. A street near the school campus is named in his honor. *John Kulla, a former Mannford football coach and University of Tulsa linebacker, died at age 59 from a degenerative brain disorder. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native played for TU over the 1973-77 seasons.

Dalton Duffield, Westmoore Weight: 106 pounds Class: Freshman The story: Duffield entered the Class 6A state wrestling championships as the No. 2 seed in the West, but scored a 1-0 decision in the semifinals over Kennedy Monday of Stillwater. He then avenged a loss in the regional finals to Jordan Prince of Edmond North in the state championship match by winning a 4-2 decision. Duffield finished the season with a 23-7 record, but lost only three times wrestling at 106 pounds.
