  • Kevin Durant opens up to Esquire about his friendship with Karl Malone and more

    Published: Wed, Sep 17, 2014

Esquire Magazine recently interviewed Kevin Durant on various topics including his influences growing up, his career and talking to the younger players. Turns out, Durant doesn't only look to his mother in tough times ("She's always on my side being positive and letting me know that it's going to be alright.") He also has a friend in The Mailman - Karl Malone. "I've gotten close with Karl Malone, who's called me numerous times when he can see on TV that I'm struggling, feeling bad after a loss," Durant said. "He can tell." Some other highlights from the interview: There were plenty of times when I wanted to quit because I was working too hard, but he knew I could handle it, and he was confident for me when I couldn't be confident for myself. We tend to take our careers too seriously and let it take over us. But great teachers have a great balance of working extremely hard to be the best, but also realizing what's the most important thing in life.

    Published: Mon, Sep 15, 2014

Kevin Durant posted a photo of himself and future NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson on his Instagram Monday . The message? Iverson -- reffered to as "Chuck" in Durant's post (FYI, " Bubba Chuck " is one of Iverson's nicknames) -- changed the game. "Chuck too real. He changed the way we play ball," Durant said. "He changed the culture of ball. He is pound for pound the best. He paved the way. I can go on and on. But he's a legend and I'm just walking the path he created." In a November interview with BallisLife.com , Iverson said that in 20-30 years, everyone will be talking about Durant as one of the all-time greats."

Serge Ibaka wants to show African children they, too, can accomplish their dreams. Yahoo Sports! caught up with Ibaka in Spain during the FIBA World Cup to talk about the work he's done to bring basketball to his native Congo, and the pride it brings the Thunder forward. Ibaka, who's playing for Team Spain in the FIBA World Cup, goes on to talk about his calf injury in the postseason, as well as his happiness that Kevin Durant isn't playing for Team USA ("No, no, no. No ... nobody wants to play against Kevin," Ibaka said. "Who wants to play against him? Hell no. Every time he takes a shot, people start crying.") Ibaka also says that "it's too early to talk about Kevin staying or going."

  • Thunder ranks 27th in Grantland NBA court design rankings

    Published: Tue, Sep 9, 2014

Grantland.com NBA writer Zach Lowe took on the task of ranking the NBA's court designs 1-30. The Thunder did not fare well, ranking 27th out of 30 teams. Lowe also says OKC's alternate dark jerseys "fell flat" (not that that has anything to do with court design). From Lowe's piece: "The Thunder would have ranked last had we done this exercise four years ago. Oklahoma City tried to touch every base in building its color scheme, meshing elements of the state flag, the sun, and referents to the local college teams. It’s ended up with a color-logo combination that is evocative of nothing. The blue and orange just feel generic. "The Thunder did well to unclutter the court by using the same blue all the way around, and the white font spelling out the team’s name pops against that blue. It’s a big improvement from 2010-11, when the Thunder featured this tricolored mess of a painted area: "The Thunder’s alternate dark blue jerseys also fell flat. This franchise feels ripe for a total design overhaul. Should we mention how awesome the Sonics’ colors and court design were? We probably shouldn’t, right?" FYI, the Los Angeles Lakers ranked No. 1. • Blake Griffin, Clippers teammates play flag football

erik horne | Published: Mon, Sep 8, 2014

Guess Blake Griffin is feeling fine. More than a month after withdrawing from Team USA to rest up for the NBA season, the former OU All-American participated in a flag football tournament with his Los Angeles Clippers teammates Chris Paul, Matt Barnes, DeAndre Jordan and Glen "Big Baby" Davis. "Just throw it up," Griffin said in the Instagram photo showing the five players at the Athletes vs. Cancer 2nd Annual Celebrity Flag Football Game. The game was presented by Barnes and rap artist Snoop Dogg.

  • Kevin Durant rated 95 in NBA 2K15; three other players rated above 90

erik horne | Published: Mon, Sep 8, 2014

Kevin Durant is the NBA's Most Valuable Player. It looks like he rates among the best in the NBA in the video game world as well. 2K Sports announced that Durant will be 1 of 4 current NBA players with an overall rating above 90, in their new rating system for NBA 2K15. Durant, who graces the cover of the game set to be released Oct. 7, will have an overall rating of 95 and will be joined in the 90s by three other players. One would presume LeBron James will be another player in the 90s, maybe even rated higher than Durant. Who are the other two players? My guess would be Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul and  Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love.

  • Steven Adams fires back at Andre Igoudala after derogotory tweet about New Zealand haka dance

Anthony Slater | Updated: Wed, Sep 3, 2014

It's been far too long since we've seen a good Steven Adams tussle. The NBA offseason, sadly, comes with no flying elbows, no overzealous box-outs and no angry retaliations at the uber-aggressive young center. But fear not, Adams is here to provide a bit of an appetizer while we desperately wait another month for preseason hoops. On Tuesday afternoon, the New Zealand national team performed its traditional haka dance before its FIBA game against the United States. Video of it made the national rounds (watch here), with a confused James Harden looking on. After USA's 98-71 romp, Warriors forward Andre Iguodala shot out a playful tweet, jabbing at the dance. It read: "New Zealand

  • #myKDs: Tell us why you wear Kevin Durant's signature shoe

Erik Horne | Published: Wed, Sep 3, 2014

Kevin Durant is staying with Nike. So he gets to keep the coolest line of shoes in the game outside of Air Jordans. It’s a matter of personal opinion, but I think the KD series — particularly the KD VI’s — are some of the best looking shoes ever produced. Couple that with the unique […]

  • VIDEO: Serge Ibaka dunks five times in Spain's rout of Egypt

Anthony Slater | Updated: Mon, Sep 1, 2014

Serge Ibaka missed Spain’s FIBA opener on Saturday with what the team called a sore right hamstring. But much like his calf in the NBA’s postseason, upon return, it didn’t seem to be bothering Ibaka much. The Thunder’s emerging star played and starred in Spain’s 91-54 rout of Egypt on Sunday, dropping in a team-high […]

  • Report: Kevin Durant staying with Nike; company matches Under Armour offer

    Published: Sun, Aug 31, 2014

With Kevin Durant on the verge of a move to Under Armour, sources told ESPN on Sunday that Nike has exercised its right to match any rival shoe company's offer to the Oklahoma City Thunder star. Nike has countered Under Armour's offer of between $265 million and $285 million and believes it will keep Durant for the next 10 years, according to ESPN sources. Durant has been with Nike since the beginning of his professional career in 2007. The exact offer by Nike is unknown, but reports are that Durant will make more -- in base salary and royalties -- than the Thunder will pay him over the next two seasons ($41.2 million).

  • Kevin Durant shows you what's inside his fridge

    Published: Thu, Aug 28, 2014

As a part of Sports Illustrated's Fridge Raider series, Thunder forward Kevin Durant opened up his refrigerator to show off what he keeps on chill. Most of what Durant consumes is fish and veggies for protein (as well as STRONG & KIND bars), and natural foods like oatmeal, fruit and a lot of water. But the Thunder star does have a sweet tooth, particularly for Twizzlers, honey buns and Oreos.

  • Kevin Durant-Under Armour-Nike: The latest in the KD shoe saga

erik horne | Published: Wed, Aug 27, 2014

Kevin Durant is a free agent and he has a decision to make. Not about where he's going to play (that's not until 2016). Under Armour and Nike are currently in a tug-of-war for Durant's services. Reports surfaced last week that Roc Nation, which represents Durant, informed Nike that it had an offer on the table from Under Armour worth between $265-285 million over 10 years. Nike has the right to match any offer, but Durant can still choose Nike even if its offer comes in lower than Under Armour's. Numerous reports cited Wednesday as the deadline day for Nike to make a decision. Well, Wednesday came and people started talking. Durant's gone off to Under Armour for 10 years, $325 million. Under Armour has signed Durant for 10 years, $285 million. Nothing has been confirmed. Nothing has been announced. ESPN's Darren Rovell says Nike still has time to match Under Armour. Stay tuned.

  • Report: Clippers to pay Doc Rivers $10M per year
