    Published: Tue, Jul 29, 2014

A quiet woman wearing a flowing, black dress and mysteriously strolling along busy highways in parts of the U.S. Southeast and Midwest has the curious wondering who she is and spurred a social media site to document her trek, according to Reuters. She has been dubbed the "Woman in Black," by TV stations, police and followers on the Web, including those on a Facebook page where she has been tracked on a nearly 500-mile journey with a black bag and walking stick in hand that has taken her from Ranger, Georgia, to Athens, Ohio, since July 18. "If you meet this woman, please, offer her a drink, a meal, whatever it may be you feel she needs. Be hospitable. Be kind," said a post on the Facebook page, which has 19,000 followers.

    Published: Tue, Jul 29, 2014

Australian police are reportedly investigating a photo of officers handcuffing Lily Allen at Gold Coast Airport in Queensland, according to Yahoo Music. In a prank gone wrong, Allen, who had been touring Down Under, asked officers who were escorting her through the airport to slap on a pair of cuffs while she posed on her knees for a photograph. After the image appeared on Instagram, the singer was confronted by police upon her arrival at Sunday’s Splendour in the Grass festival, where she was set to perform, according to the New Zealand Herald. "At her request members involved placed open handcuffs for a photo opportunity," an Australian Federal Police spokesman told the Herald. "It appears the members involved were caught in the moment and standard protocol were breached. It is subject to internal processes."

  • Humpback whales come within 150 feet of shore

    Published: Tue, Jul 29, 2014

Still photographs are often more compelling than video because they capture a single moment in time. The stunning image in this post, captured Sunday by Kate Cummings near Moss Landing in California’s Monterey Bay, is a prime example: The humpback whale has just lunged upward to capture a mouthful of anchovies and is about to sink back down. A woman on the beach takes a photo while her dog seems surprised by the sudden appearance of this gigantic creature, according to GrindTV.com.

  • Girl's smartphone burns up in her bed

    Published: Tue, Jul 29, 2014

Charging our devices as we sleep feels like a harmless routine. For one young Samsung smartphone owner, however, that habit almost turned heated, according to Yahoo Tech. Last week, a 13-year-old North Texas girl plugged her Samsung Galaxy S4 in for its nightly juice-up before hitting the sack, only to be awoken by the smell of something burning hours later. When she got up and searched around for the source of the stench, she realized that she had wedged her charging phone under her pillow. And not only was the backside of the pillow scorched, but the phone was fried into an unrecognizable slab of plastic and melted components.

Last week on "The View," McCarthy and her co-hosts were discussing Ronald Kessler's new book, The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of Presidents, which claims Bill Clinton has a mistress nicknamed "The Energizer." • 'Bad Timing' Wiped Out Dinosaurs

    Published: Mon, Jul 28, 2014

Dinosaurs might have survived the catastrophic impact that ended their reign had the devastating asteroid that slammed into the Earth arrived at a "more convenient time", a scientist has claimed. As a result humans would probably not exist, according to The Guardian. The violent collision 66m years ago, which occurred in the area that is now Mexico, triggered tsunamis across the oceans, caused powerful earthquakes and released enough heat to start many fires. Material thrown into the air descended as acid rain, and also blocked the sun's warmth, cooling the Earth temporarily, perhaps by tens of degrees celsius. A thick blanket of dust that was thrown up darkened the globe, affecting plants and other photosynthesising life, The Guardian reports.

  • He had sex with a witness in his chambers, but judge can't be sued

    Published: Mon, Jul 28, 2014

Wade McCree Jr. lost his job, but he won’t lose his shirt, according to The Detroit Free Press. The disgraced judge — who once texted a shirtless photo of himself to a female court bailiff — had an affair with a woman while overseeing her child custody case, had sex with her in his chambers and sexted her from the bench. Be he  can’t be sued for money damages  over any of that because judges are immune from civil lawsuits — a well-established doctrine that has many in the legal profession demanding change, arguing the McCree case highlights a pervasive problem in the justice system: judges getting away with bad behavior on immunity grounds, The Free Press reports.

And according to the letter, the apparent elderly viewer thought Johnson needed to stop wearing high-bodiced dresses, BuzzFeed reports. Johnson has been covering weather for WATE for the last 12 years and, as she wrote on Facebook, she's more concerned with delivering an accurate forecast than what people think of her "bust."

  • Oklahoma's road to becoming a red state

Tiffany Gibson | Published: Mon, Jul 21, 2014

Oklahoma is known as the reddest state in the country, but it wasn’t always that way. MSNBC’s Luke Russert discussed the state’s political history and transformation in a segment on The Daily Rundown Monday. He pointed out that the state elected 16 straight Democratic governors from 1907 to 1963. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the […]
