Most of the 22 officers who have left the Oklahoma City Police Department while under investigation since 2007 are still certified by the state's Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training, records show.
In fact, only five of the 22 former Oklahoma City police are not CLEET-certified today.
According to its website, CLEET, provides “basic peace officer certification … for all full-time peace officers employed by city, county or state entities of government, with the exception of approved academy agencies.”
CLEET also licenses those who work in private security or for private investigation firms, although getting a license is different from being certified.
Five not certified
Christopher Gayhart, who was told by a judge that he can no longer be a police officer in Oklahoma or any other state, is not certified.
Maurice Martinez, who pleaded guilty Aug. 21 to molesting his three adopted sons, isn't certified.
Martinez, who was a sergeant, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Former officers Michael Sumpter and Cody Harbison aren't certified, either. Both men were terminated while “probationary” officers, meaning they were still in their first year on the job.
