Police have amended a report on the drowning of a 2-year-old boy Tuesday in southeast Oklahoma City.

The child's mother was not present when the toddler drowned in a bathtub, Master Sgt. Gary Knight said Thursday.

Knight said investigators with the child crimes unit said the child's father's fiance was caring for the child when he was left briefly unattended in the bath.

Oklahoma City police officers responded about 7 p.m. to a 911 call from 5601 Runway Road after the boy was found unresponsive in the bathtub.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An initial report said the child was under his mother's care. That was incorrect, Knight said.

The child crimes unit is continuing its investigation, though it appears the death was a tragic accident, Knight said.
