A motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision in Mayes County, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said.

Randall Miles, 48, of Tulsa, was riding east about 6:15 p.m. on U.S. 412, five miles west of Locust Grove, when he failed to negotiate a curve because of excessive speed, troopers said. His motorcycle went left of the centerline and hit the front fender of a pickup driven by Jody T. Burton, 41, of Locust Grove.

Miles was thrown about 70 feet and landed in a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burton was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt, troopers reported.
