Mount St. Mary plucked its new boys basketball coach from the college ranks, naming Weber State assistant Kellen McCoy to the position on Wednesday.

McCoy is a Norman High graduate who played at Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa and Weber State, where the 5-foot-6 point guard was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Year for the 2008-09 season. He was also a teammate of Damian Lillard, now with the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers.

McCoy played professionally in Sweden for one season. He has been an assistant coach at Norman North High School, Emporia State and Weber State, along with serving as a graduate assistant under Lon Kruger at Oklahoma.

McCoy replaces Andy Fisher, who stepped down last month.
