As friends and relatives entered the sanctuary they were greeted by the sounds of black southern gospel coming from speakers atop a projection screen that read "Celebrating the Home Going of Pastor Carol Daniels."
Daniels, 61, lived in Oklahoma City but traveled every Sunday to Anadarko, where she was slain Aug. 23 at Christ Holy Sanctified Church. The congregation there was small, and Daniels held services even on the Sundays nobody came, her denomination leader said.
Sources said Daniels' mutilated body was left in what appeared to be the position of a crucifix behind the altar of her church. The state Medical Examiner's report showed she was savagely cut in the throat, back and chest. No arrests have been made.
The flowers that lined the front of the sanctuary today were as colorful and diverse as the faces in the pews who came to pay tribute.
The program includes a New Testament Scripture, 2 Timothy 4:6-8:
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
