SALLISAW -- Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart has reopened a murder case that dates back to the 1970s.

The remains of the victim, Sandra Carter Davis, 35, were found Nov. 23, 1978, in a shallow grave in a field south of Wild Horse Mountain and west of U.S. 59, in the Sadie area, Lockhart told The Sequoyah County Times.

She last was seen alive almost six months earlier.

The sheriff recently obtained access to the investigative file of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and noticed some areas he thought should be checked out.
