MIAMI, OK — First-degree murder charges were filed Wednesday in Ottawa County in connection with a home invasion that left one of the intruders dead.
Jake Lee Payton, 21, Jessica Dawn Logan, 21, and Jerrod Wayne Russell, 18, all of Miami, are being held without bail in the Ottawa County jail. Authorities think the three, along with Samuel Ellison, broke into a Miami home about 11 p.m. Monday and assaulted Christopher Piatt, 19, and Melissa Bridgewater, 19, over the whereabouts of a tattoo gun, Miami police said. Ellison, 22, also of Miami, was stabbed in the chest. He was taken to Baptist Regional Hospital, where he died Tuesday, according to an arrest affidavit. According to a police report, Ellison threatened to cut Bridgewater’s throat if Piatt did not tell them where a tattoo gun was. A beaten Piatt told authorities he didn’t know what Ellison was talking about, and during the fight grabbed a knife off the kitchen counter and stabbed Ellison in the chest. Piatt also stabbed Payton in the left hip, police reported. Ellison’s stepfather, Raymond Dale Herd Jr., 40, of Miami, was arrested Tuesday on a complaint of assault and battery with intent to kill.
