MUSKOGEE — A Muskogee County sheriff's deputy was fired for using a county fuel card to purchase gasoline for his lawnmower, Sheriff Charles Pearson said Friday.
Robbie Baker confessed to using the department's Fuelman car to purchase five gallons of gas, he said.
Baker worked in the jail transporting inmates.
Pearson said a person saw Baker fill up his car with gasoline using the county fuel card which he is allowed to use, but then opened the vehicle's trunk and filled a five-gallon gas can with gasoline at the county's expense.
Baker will likely face a misdemeanor charge for the theft, he said.
"This is the sixth employee I have had to put in jail," said Pearson, who is in his eighth year as Muskogee County sheriff.
