So I had at least one person ask me why I hadn’t posted a blog in about a week. Truth is, I was taking a little vaca time/camping trip and have been off the grid for several days. The thing about being off the grid is that it can be equal parts terrifying and liberating at the same time. After about two days of obsessively checking your cell phone for emails you can’t get, it finally hits you. Just let it go. Then, you get the liberation. It’s actually quite nice. For about half a second I even considered the merits of life with no cell phone. But then as soon as you get cell service back you come back to your senses.
Anyway, I got back in the beer swing last night by attending the Red Earth Brewers homebrew club meeting at Mustang Brewing Co. headquarters. Mustang has done a lot of work at its building — the tasting room looks great and the brewhouse is coming together nicely.
Mustang President Tim Schoelen said they are waiting on some final electrical and set-up work and they should be brewing in the building in the next couple weeks. In the meantime, Mustang has a few events worth noting.
First, they are hosting a tour and tasting tonight at the brewery. Schoelen said they should have several beers on tap, including the last keg of Doppelhopper rescued from their old brewhouse on Sheridan Avenue (the one that was damaged by the May 31 storm).
Then on Monday, Mustang is holding a release party/pint night at McNellie’s OKC to unveil its latest beer, Rocket Fuel double IPA. Got to try a little taste of that last night, and I have to say I like the direction Mustang is going with its new Unbridled lineup. Another beer in that series that I sampled last night, Hoplahoma, may be one of my favorite Mustang beers to date. So, feel free to check out either of those beers.
And by the way, if you hit up McNellie’s on Monday, you can get one of these neat Rocket Fuel snifters during pint night:
