North Dakota State (15-0 in 2013) vs. Iowa State (3-9 in 2013)
Series Record: Iowa State leads 1-0
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Iowa State desperately needs to get off to a good start after losing to FCS rival Northern Iowa in the 2013 opener. North Dakota State enters play with a 24-game winning streak but a lot to prove under first-year coach Chris Klieman.
Iowa State's running game vs. North Dakota State's tackles: The Bison will be breaking in a pair of new tackles, while Iowa State brings back a veteran offensive line that was decimated by injuries a year ago. If the Cyclones can attack North Dakota State on inside runs, that could quarterback Sam Richardson more room to operate in the passing game.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Iowa State: QB Sam Richardson: He won the No. 1 job with an impressive fall camp. But will he and new coordinator Mark Mangino click? Richardson has thrown 19 TDs against just seven interceptions in his career.
North Dakota State: QB Carson Wentz: He's also in a big spot. Brock Jensen won 47 games for the Bison, who've taken the last three national championships as the FCS level. Wentz, a junior, has thrown just 46 career passes — but he'll be facing a secondary with a pair of new starters at safety.
