LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — John Napier has raced for America and fought for America.

Now that he's doing neither, he misses both.

Napier is a former Olympic bobsled pilot who served in Afghanistan after the 2010 Vancouver Games, then returned to sliding before retiring a couple years ago to try something new. He's now studying biochemistry at Florida Southern College, quite the change from wearing his country's uniform as both a slider and a soldier.

He says he's eager to see what his U.S. teammates, many of whom he remains close with, do at next month's Sochi Olympics. And he hasn't totally ruled out a return to the sled in the coming years.
