National Assisted Living Week kicks off with National Grandparents Day
The Oklahoma Assisted Living Association is commemorating the National Assisted Living Week which begins Sunday with National Grandparents Day. Assisted living communities throughout Oklahoma will be participating in activities centered around the theme “Art for the Ages.”
The program is designed to help the elderly in assisted living communities to put their creative skills to work.
“We wanted to inspire Oklahoma's assisted living residents to learn and grow in artistic expression while we remind all Oklahomans how much these residents contribute to the richness of our state,” said Penny Ridenour, the association's executive director.
The Legend at Rivendell, 13200 S May, is one of the assisted living centers that will be participating in the program.
Staff members will help residents create, learn and grow through an artistic experience.
Residents will work with a local pre-school to create a work of art that will be donated to the school. Also planned are opportunities for seniors to plant vines, learn about vocal music and the art of crocheting.
